Jersey Community Acupuncture

August 20, 2015
I am not usually a fan of holistic medicine.  I've just never really bought into the idea.  However, this past year has found me dealing with things that I can't completely rely on medicine to fix.  Anxiety and stress had gotten the better of me this year and I realized that I needed a healthy way to deal with it, as I don't have time to be out of sorts with a big family and lots of responsibility on my shoulders.

I decided that I would try to spend more time on me, exercising as a way to decompress, which absolutely helps, but wasn't completely alleviating my symptoms.  Since I've heard a lot about acupuncture, and I was curious, I decided to check out Jersey Community Acupuncture.  I had no idea what to expect and probably went into it a little skeptical, honestly.

I was able to meet with Nicole Maniez, the owner of JCA, and discuss my ailments.  We talked about what I wanted out of the treatments and she told me what I could expect.  From there, I went into the treatment room.  This is a community setting, meaning that everyone (around 8-10 people at a time) is in a very peaceful, quiet room. There is relaxing music, fans, and white noise, so it isn't completely silent.  It just fosters a very comfortable, soothing atmosphere. There is no talking in this room.  People take a reclining seat, take off their shoes and start relaxing.  Nicole comes over and asks what you would like to focus on that week and begins putting very small, thin needles in corresponding areas on your body.  Typically these are in the arms, feet, lets, and face/head. They don't hurt going in.  In fact, I found it to be a very comfortable sensation.  Then you can close your eyes and relax for the next 45 minutes.

My first visit, I was a little weirded out.  I didn't understand how everyone in the room could be so comfortable as to fall asleep.  I realized that I didn't know how to completely relax, without playing on a phone or checking my email.  I needed to learn to just be in the moment.  I decided to take that time and reflect.  I found myself in an almost meditative state and started to really unwind.  When my time was up and the needles removed, I was very relaxed.  I slept really well that night!

The next visit was a few days later and I was experiencing some debilitating jaw pain, which I would frequently get.  I told Nicole about the pain and she put needles in my jawline, along with other parts of my body.  A few minutes into the session, I literally felt the pain leave the top of my head.  I can't describe the sensation, but it was such a relief!  At that point, I must have been so relaxed that I fell asleep.  Now this is saying a lot because I never fall asleep anywhere other than my bed. At the end of the session, I felt so refreshed and relaxed, it was as if I had received a massage.  I would dare say the way I feel after going to acupuncture feels better to me than having had a massage!

Nicole is absolutely wonderful.  She is a very nuturing soul.  Each visit she is very empathetic and comforting in how she treats each client.  I can confidently tell her what is going on and she kindly takes care of my needs.  I am sure that she sets the tone for each session with her demeanor, and it makes for such a worthwhile experience.

After a handful of visits, I found that my stress and anxiety levels had significantly decreased, my jaw pain had also gone down.  I found that I just craved the relaxing experience.  I found this was a very healthy outlet to rid my mind of the excess baggage I was dealing with.  After months of not sleeping well, I was able to get back to normal.  It was incredible!

I highly recommend going to see Nicole at Jersey Community Acupuncture!  You can be seen for a ton of symptoms, pain relief, weight issues, and more, or for just overall wellness for a very affordable price.  You pick the amount that you pay on a scale of $20-$40, whatever you are comfortable with.
