Soda Stream

Soda Lover's Dream!

August 2, 2010

I will admit it, I am a soda addict.....and I am ok with that.  I love my Diet Coke, what can I say?  Well, I heard about Soda Stream on an infomercial one night....what is it about those infomercials that suck you in and really make you want to buy something?  It had me intrigued.

I recently received a Soda Stream to try out for myself.  Slightly skeptical, but hopeful, I tried out the machine.  I love how compact the machine is and it is really easy to set up--took me no longer than a minute to have everything up and running.  There are sturdy reusable bottles that you hook up to the machine, press a button to carbonate and then release.  Instantly you have carbonated water!  Then comes the flavoring.  Soda Stream offers a wide variety of diet, regular, and sparkling water flavors.  This is where I was really skeptical.  Really, how can this kind of syrup taste good in comparison with name brand flavors?  Small concentrated syrup bottles come with the kit and I tried the Diet Cola first.  A small amount of flavoring into the carbonated water and you are ready to go.  I took a sip and was more than pleasantly surprised because I, the Queen of diet cola consumption, couldn't tell a difference!  It was fresh, tasty, and homemade.  We tried the root beer next and my kids were in heaven!

So why should you buy a SodaStream rather than just pick up soda at the store?  Well, the taste was really amazing.  It was fun to make-- and easy enough for my kids to help.  It isn't fun to lug all the bottles to and from the store to your home, either.  With Soda Stream, I can just store the syrup in my pantry and whenever I want it, I can make some.  One bottle of syrup will make the equivalent of 33 12 oz cans.  The size of the bottle? 16.9 ounces.  It takes up less space, makes more, and saves on all the plastic and cans that you would dispose of--making it better for the environment.

All of this and the ingredients are healthier than regular soda.  Rather than being made with aspartame and high-fructose corn syrup, it is made with SPLENDA.  A regular soda would be somewhere between 100-150 calories, but with SodaStream, regular soda is about 35 calories!
