Les Miserables

Papermill Playhouse

December 17, 2010

My husband and I were invited to see Papermill Playhouse's production of Les Miserables this week.  I have seen so many plays over the years, but Les Miserables holds a special place in my heart.  There is something about it that speaks to me and I love it.  So, needless to say, I was very excited to go see how their production lived up to those that I had previously seen.

One of the many great things about performances at Papermill Playhouse is the proximity to our area.  You don't have to travel far to have a fantastic and memorable theatre experience.  Everything I have seen there has been great.  However, I had seen traveling productions of Les Miserables several times and loved them, so I really didn't know if this would be more on the amateur side.

When the lights went down and the orchestra began playing, immediately I knew this was no amateur production!  We were blown away at the voices, the set, and the music.  Everything about the musical was tremendous!  Such a touching story, I am very familiar with the songs, but I felt like I was seeing it for the first time.  Emotions were so well portrayed that I found myself crying several times throughout the show.  Many of the actors have had experience on Broadway, including Jean Valjean and Javert, who actually were in the Broadway production of Les Miserables.

This was such a treat for me!  Far better than any of the other performances of Les Miserables I have ever seen, and that is saying a lot, I feel compelled to go back to see it again with my oldest son before it concludes at the end of the month.  If I could recommend doing one thing over the next couple of weeks, I would tell you to make sure you go see this incredible musical.  You will be so glad you did!

Les Miserables will continue to run throughout December 30th  at the Papermill Playhouse.
