RAIN: A Tribute to the Beatles on Broadway

Giveaway

February 28, 2011

I have always been a huge fan of  the Beatles.  I frequently watched old Beatles movies like Help! and Sgt. Peppers Lonely Heart's Club Band Abbey Road has been replaced a couple of times in my CD collection from wear.  To say I love their music may be a bit of an understatement.  We had the opportunity as a family to go and see RAIN:  A Tribute to the Beatles on Broadway recently and I was very excited  to see the show.

My kids have grown up with a very eclectic music collection in our house.  They are familiar with classics, and the Beatles just happen to be one of their favorites.  I was curious to see how they would like the show.

The premise of RAIN is like you are watching the Beatles in concert, performing songs over the span of their careers.  There is no "play" to see, just an excellent selection of hit after hit performed at such a high caliber that you think you are hearing the Beatles play live.  Amazing!  Televisions set in the theatre show clips from real Beatles footage, commercials from the time period which are hysterical, trivia, and the audience enjoying the show.  The costume changes were fun to see, too. When Twist and Shout played, we all jumped from our seats and danced, which my kids loved.  There is nothing quite like dancing in a theatre to a great song with your kids.  We were all laughing and having a great time.

While you may think that RAIN was just for adults, you would be surprised that kids were all over the place, completely engrossed in the spectacular performances. There were families everywhere! We listened to over 30 incredible songs, including, I Want to Hold Your Hand, A Day in the Life, Come Together, and Strawberry Fields.  I do have one major complaint about the show, though, and that is that a solid two hours of music wasn't nearly long enough!  We all were wishing the show would go on and on.  So many songs were left to be played.  But, with a history such as the Beatles, there would be no way to touch on every great song.

We were so impressed with RAIN!  Each of the performers of the tribute band had the personalities and idiosyncrasies down pat.  I felt like I was actually watching Paul, John, Ringo and George.  I highly recommend this show!  We are still talking about what a fun time we had.  It was a great experience for the whole family.

You can order your own tickets to see RAIN: A Tribute to the Beatles on Broadway online.  The show is playing at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre 256 West 47th Street, New York, NY  10036 .
