One of the more fun traditions my husband and I have for birthdays and father/mother’s day is to take our girls to the drugstore and have them pick any card. I’ve received “Happy Kindergarten Graduation!” (which, to be fair, had fun glitter on it, so I totally get it), “Happy 5th Birthday”, singing cards (those get lost a little quicker ;) ) and my favorite, a 2 ft giant card with a dog on it for Christmas. Come to think of it, 99% of cards have a cute animal on it, hah! Never gets old and totally recommend. We also grab each other's favorite candy and something else silly or necessary.

Misc ideas for dad on the weekend:
- Mini golf: There’s a few local spots where the family can get out and have some fun outside!
- Northlandz: Miniature displays, lots of walking to wear the kids out - win, win!
- The Watershed Institute: Explore the preserve, head to the walking trail (it’s a boardwalk that’s stroller friendly!), climb on the playground, and head inside to see critters and learn about our area + play in their indoor space
Activities to create, do together, & gift
- Preserve hand/foot prints into a quirky gift with 3 quick ideas:
- Air dry clay: Press in a hand or foot, let dry overnight, then have your little(s) help paint! I use Crayola, which I grabbed at Michael’s in Flemington
- Paint: I got this cutie multi-panel frame where each insert is someone’s hand print. Easy, meaningful, and relatively mess free! Look online for easy things to create (we just did hand prints and a measuring tape to say how much we love dad)
- Coloring/paint pages: Find some free printables and go crazy!
- Make a dad scavenger hunt: Where’s dad’s left sock? His belt? His screwdriver? What about his lunch box? Have the kids draw what to find that’s dad-themed in advance, and let them explore with dad!
- Record a sweet video: Make it a yearly tradition! Ask the littles some things about dad. What’s dad’s name? Who’s he married to? What’s his favorite thing to do? What’s his least favorite chore? What’s the best joke he ever said?
- Celebrate dad with jokes, love, and more fun + free printables! Find it here.
