Heaven Sent!

Sister Act

July 16, 2011

Oh, we love going to take our family to see a show on Broadway!  Naturally, with all the buzz about Sister Act this year, we had to go see what this show had to offer.  Having been nominated for Best Musical for the 2011 Tony Awards, the show certainly had our expectations up.  I am happy to tell you it did not disappoint!

We took our entire family to the show, as it is extremely family friendly.  The sets were fun, costumes were fantastic, and the music was incredible!  I loved the 70's background.

Dolores Van Cartier ("as in Cartier's"), portrayed by Patina Miller, finds herself as a witness to a murder and is put in protective hiding to wait for a court date to testify.  She is placed in the most unlikely hiding spot --in a convent-- and is supposed to fit in with a group of nuns.  Despite their differences, she soon finds that being with her "sisters" is something she loves.  Her experiences in the convent are hysterical and sweet. Patina Miller's voice and charm were a perfect fit for the character.  She was absolutely spectacular!

In the meantime, the murderer, who happens to be Dolores' boyfriend, and his thugs are on the lookout for her. These characters are such a fun part of the show. Whenever they were on stage, there were lots of laughs and they were definitely a highlight--while I loved them, my kids really got a kick out of their antics.

Alls well that ends well, and we find a happy and action packed ending all around, where dreams come true for those who truly deserve it.

This was one outstanding production, one that you would expect to see on Broadway.  I highly recommend this show and would go back to see it again and again.

Sister Act is playing at the Broadway Theatre in New York City.  Purchase your tickets now for a spectacular night out with the family or a fun date night.  You will be glad you did!
