The Lorax

August 5, 2012
After full days of playing and living summer to its fullest, my kids are thrilled to sit down and take in a fun movie.  This week's movie was Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax, available on Blu-ray August 9th.  We were excited to receive a copy to get a sneak peek of this popular Dr. Seuss tale.

We were in for a treat when watching this sweet tale of a twelve year old boy's journey to find a real live Truffula Tree to impress a cute girl.  He dares to go against the grain and on his journey he finds out about the Lorax.  The Lorax speaks to trees, but appears quite grumpy (although, I really liked him--it is voiced by Danny DeVito after all!)

It has a strong environmental message and explains what happens when not living with a respect for the land around you.

My kids love this story and have requested to watch it several times since receiving it (that is always a good sign of whether or not it was good!).  They especially love the music and beautiful colors in the movie.

This is one of their favorite movies of the year.  You can pick up your own copy at retailers everywhere.  The Blu-ray is loaded with many special features. It's also available on Blu-ray 3D, which has three different mini movies to watch:
    • Serenade -  Two Bar-ba-loots -- one love shy and the other suave and confident -- battle for the heart of their would-be sweetheart with the help of a colorful cast of characters, including the Humming-Fish and Swomme-Swans.
    • Wagon-Ho  - Two Bar-ba-loots take The Once-ler’s wagon on a ride they won’t soon forget.
    • Forces of Nature - Determined to scare The Once-ler out of Truffula Valley, The Lorax decides to create the illusion of ominous forces of nature.

About the movie: The imaginative world of Dr. Seuss comes to life like never before in this visually spectacular adventure from the creators of Despicable Me! Twelve-year-old Ted will do anything to find a real live Truffula Tree in order to impress the girl of his dreams. As he embarks on his journey, Ted discovers the incredible story of the Lorax, a grumpy but charming creature who speaks for the trees. Featuring the voice talents of Danny DeVito, Ed Helms, Zac Efron, Taylor Swift, Rob Riggle, Jenny Slate and Betty White, Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax is filled with hilarious fun for everyone!
